Surabaya (21 December 2023) – As the new year approaches and the holiday season approaches, PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) is taking proactive measures to ensure smooth operations and is ready to face the challenges anticipated during Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2023.

Realizing the potential impact of government restrictions on operational activities for transporting goods via toll roads, TPS has predicted an increase in container flows, especially imported containers. To overcome this, TPS has coordinated with both internal and external stakeholders.

Ensuring equipment reliability to guarantee optimal service performance is carried out through managing maintenance schedules for Container Cranes (CC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG), head trucks and other loading and unloading equipment in line with operational rhythm and needs, arranging stacking yard slots, by preparing blocks -Temporary stacking blocks for imported containers, which are expected to increase ahead of the year-end holidays.

The Main Director of TPS, Wahyu Widodo, stated that in this year's Christmas there is a projected volume increase of more than 3% for international containers, compared to the 2022 Christmas period. In addition, to anticipate an increase in the volume of reefer containers handled and the need for reefer plug facilities, TPS provides 1,448 reefer plugs to ensure adequate capacity in anticipation of this potential increase.

TPS has also carried out significant infrastructure improvements, including raising and repairing uneven paving in several container stack areas. The operational, planning and IT teams at TPS have carried out a comprehensive review of the Terminal Operating System (TOS) to prevent potential problems in the system.

Apart from focusing on the reliability of facilities and equipment, TPS has implemented a rotating leave pattern to ensure the availability of adequate human resources during the Christmas period.

The commitment to implementing AKHLAK values also continues to be echoed, among others, by issuing circulars regarding anti-extortion, anti-bribery and anti-gratification commitments, commitments that are not only required to be adhered to by TPS, but also all parties involved in providing services at TPS, so that they are able to make TPS as a comfortable business place for all stakeholders.

No less important, from a security perspective, TPS will increase the number of security personnel, especially at certain access points, namely the domestic gate, Tanjung Mutiara and Tanjung Emas. Maximize patrol units to ensure access and security in controlled, safe and smooth conditions.

"We will continue to operate 24/7 during the Christmas period, as in previous years. TPS remains committed to ensuring smooth logistics flows without any disruption," said Wahyu, emphasizing TPS' commitment to smooth service delivery.

The achievement of container flows through TPS experienced a positive trend with an increase of 5.6% until November 2023, recorded at 1,314,988 TEUs compared to the same period the previous year which was only recorded at 1,245,356 TEUs. International container flows up to November 2023 contributed 1,251,165 TEUs, an increase of 6.25% compared to the previous year in the same period, namely 1,177,616 TEUs, while domestic ones contributed 63,823 TEUs up to November 2023.

During the 2023 period, TPS recorded an increase in loading and unloading performance, namely at 58.7 boxes/ship/hour, far above the loading and unloading performance set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main Port Authority Office in Surabaya: 48 boxes/ship/ hour.
